HUI
La’a na mamo hia
O na lei ha’aheo la
La’a na mamo lana
O ka pali uli la

Kaulana wale oe o Mahilani la
Kahea mai na keiki o ka Pakipika

Uwe na pono lani kahea mai
Uniki a he lei na pono ia

Na malihini ahe o na Pi’ilani la
Kulo na kamakani o’oe ihu

He mele no inoa na mauka lani la
Ku pono ha’aheo lohe ia wehe
Sacred are the generations
Adorned proudly
Sacred are the generations
From the highest heavens of Light

Famous is (Mahilani) the worker of the heavens
Calling the children of the Pacific

The heavens cry tears of joy, for she is called
To share the lei of truth with all

Newcomers are welcomed by this child of Pi’ilani
As the wind greets sacredly from the past

This song is for the worker of the heavens
Standing proud with truth, listening openly
(to the pathway)

This mele inoa is for Aunty Mahilani Poepoe - beloved kupuna who shares her gifts, spirit and mana’o with all. This song was written on the eve of her journey to Aotearoa/NZ to share with the ohana. This song speaks of her great work as the worker of the heavens. It is a vision that was given from birth and brought forward to this generation.
